An easterly wind

Looking west to wide skies and high clouds

The front field faces south. To the east, 8 miles away, lies the historic town of St Andrews. To the west, just over one mile away, sits Ceres. Also historic, but small and mannerly and mostly unremarkable, except for its Highland Games. But we’ll get to that.

The front field sits within an east-west valley that runs from Pitscottie to Ceres. The prevailing wind here is westerly but, this summer, easterly winds have brought cooler temperatures and changeable weather.

Today looked promising early on, but high skies gave way to scurrying clouds at lower altitudes and, with them, a lower temperature and gloomier temperament.

In this way, the front field captures the moods of summer in Scotland.
